Where the letter M comes from
M comes from the Phoenician mem, meaning "water", drawn as a wavy line. The Greeks straightened the waves into mu (ฮ), and the Romans kept that shape. Lowercase m came from scribes rounding the peaks into arches as they wrote faster. M and N have been neighbours since the Phoenician alphabet.
How M behaves in different styles
Script capital M comes from older Unicode: โณ (Script Capital M, U+2133). It's historically associated with the German Mark currency and is used in maths too. Some fonts give โณ a larger flourish than the other script capitals. Bold script ๐ is the matched alternative.
Because M is so wide, it's the letter that most exposes the difference between styles. In monospace (๐ผ) every letter takes the same width, so M is squeezed. In fullwidth (๏ผญ), everything takes the width of a CJK character, so words look spaced out. Pick based on how much room your name field has.

Why does script M look bigger?
